Non-Practising Categories

There are non-practicing membership status options available. You should become familiar with Reinstatement if you expect to return to practising.

Retired

Members who transfer to, or renew, the Retired category:

  • Must return all seals
  • Cannot practise Professional Engineering or Geoscience in Manitoba
  • Are not required to participate in ProDev
  • Must apply to the Continuing Competency Committee before returning to practice
  • Retains all other rights, responsibilities, and privileges conferred upon a professional engineer and/or a professional geoscientist, as applicable, provided for in the Act and these by-laws, besides right to practice
  • Must clearly identify themselves as P.Eng(Ret) or P.Geo(Ret) on any correspondence prepared or document issued by the retired member in their capacity as a professional member
  • Must renew annually and confirm non-practising declaration
  • Receive membership at a reduced fee

    Dues Waived
    Annual dues shall be continuously waived if the retired member has:
    • Applied in writing to the registrar
    • been a member of the Association, or one of the constituent associations of Engineers Canada or Geoscientists Canada for not less than 30 years; and
    • has retired from all gainful employment

On Leave

Members who transfer to, or renew, the On Leave category:

  • Will be away from practice for several years, but intend to return to practice
  • Must return all seals
  • Cannot practise Professional Engineering or Geoscience in Manitoba
  • Are not required to participate in ProDev
  • Are strongly encouraged to maintain their ProDev log
  • Retains all other rights, responsibilities, and privileges conferred upon a professional engineer and/or a professional geoscientist, as applicable, provided for in the Act and these by-laws, besides right to practice
  • Must clearly identify themselves as P.Eng(On Leave) or P.Geo(On Leave) on any correspondence prepared or document issued by the retired member in their capacity as a professional member
  • Must renew annually and confirm non-practising declaration
  • Must apply to the Continuing Competency Committee before returning to practice
  • Receive membership at a reduced fee

Common cases for On Leave status include long-term disability, or extended parental leave.

Resignation

Members who resign from Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba:

  • Are considered in good standing and may apply for reinstatement with the Association without having to pay a de-registration fee
  • Cannot practise Professional Engineering or Geoscience in Manitoba
  • Must return all seals and certificates

If you fail to provide notice of resignation, you must reapply to become re-registered with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba in the future. See Reinstatement for details.
